This report was built as an analytical exploration of historical crime records from the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) Open Data. It provides an in-depth spatial and temporal analysis of crime incidents from 2020 to 2024. This report provides strategic visibility into peak vulnerability times and gives insights into law enforcement KPIs, such as arrest rates and reporting delays.

Report back-end

While the data volume is massive (handling over 1 million rows of raw CSV data from data.gov), there is plenty of heavy lifting being done by Power Query to clean, extract, and shape the data as needed. The final data model is structured into a highly optimized Star Schema to ensure fast query performance and seamless relationship mapping across various crime attributes.
